SB Bday Celebration

After the bday dinner at 亮记 which is an average Teochew feast. Cake cutting is at Meier Suites. We had wine, tea, chips and of course the bday cake.

Love this picture very much as everyone in the photo had big smile on their face.

Sunday Afternoon Kopi

Joshua brought a box of Heng Heang 马蹄酥, and I must say it's the best I've tasted.

The shape is very symmetrically done. The crust is thin and very 酥 and within it is a thin layer of sweeten paste, just sweet enough for my liking.

And I must say it goes so well with a cup of unsweetened coffee.

Repotting

Finally got my hands dirty by doing some gardening. I repotted some plants today including this pot of money plant and this hole-ly plant (I dunno wats the name of the plant but it has holes on the leaves).

They took over the pots of plants that didn't survive. I hope they outlast their predecessors.

Shopping

Today I went to Vivo Tangs to shop for SB's birthday gift. Not only did I managed to buy the gift, I also bought myself a Porter bag. I tried the brown and the black but finally settled for the red.

I'm fortunate that there is a 20% discount with and additional 12% rebate. That probably induced me to buy the bag.

Zakka Tote

Continuing my sewing frenzy, I started sewing when the 7pm Korean drama started till the 10pm Korean drama ended. This is the end product of a 4 hour effort.

I kind of like the Zakka look. Simple, clean cut and manly.

Camo Tote

Yesterday went to buy more fabrics and bought a piece of hard canvas. I was so excited to see the possibility the canvas could be sewn into. I spent 4 hours to make this tote bag. It turned out quite well as I took measurement of Hermes and YSL tote bags.

Lunch in a plastic wrapper

This was my lunch today.

And it was very tasty. I threw in red dates, 枸杞子 and some chilli padi. The noodle was Q and the soup base tasty with a little herbal taste. Love the 麻辣肉骨茶 taste.

A cool raining morning

When was the last time I had breakfast in the late morning at a cafe, idling away in a cool raining morning?

Decades ago? I don't really remember.

I'm grateful that I'm able to read my book and sipping kopi, watching the rain fall from the sky violently and relentlessly.

A nice cool morning to sit outdoor and read my book.

The feeling, priceless!

Specky look

After I started wearing glasses, I find that I look a little weird without glasses on photo.

Is it a matter of getting accustomed to the specky look or is it that the more interesting frame hides the not so flattering eyes?

Baking for Sunny

Baking some cookies for Sunny now.

The first time I tried was a complete failure as I didn't follow closely to the recipe.

This time round, the cookies look good in the oven. I hope they taste as good as they look. Well, after all, they are filled with good stuff, like Manuka honey, flax seed and peanut butter.

A small floral carrier

This is a small carrier. I finally got the Denison correct and that's because I refer to one of the many sewing books I've bought.

The size is just right, not too big, not too small.

Going to give this to an aunt who said she loves this fabric very much.

Be thankful

SB said we should be thankful that we could still walk and able to walk the globe.

I agree with her totally. What's more important than health. If health is the most important thing in our life, shouldn't we put extra effort to enhance it? Shouldn't we make every effort not to destroy it?

While we are in the pink of health, let us also keep our loved ones in prayers for their well being as well.

I thank God for all his blessings and will continue to acknowledge that and give him praise for all the blessings.

Rest if you must

If you are tired, just take a rest.

To rest, is to go a longer distant.

Still the heart and get a clear picture where you want to head to.

Stop

Pause

And see with your heart.

Ramen

Believe me, any ramen in Japan is better than those you get in Singapore.

This bowl of ramen cost less than S$10 but it was really tasty. The eatery said they take 3 days to prepare the soup base.

It's really cheap and good

Okonomiyaki

Everytime we come to Osaka to visit Yoshi and Rika, we would come to eat Okonomiyaki, at this same restaurant near their place.

Somehow this time round, I didn't find the taste as exciting as the previous times. Nevertheless, it was still Oishi!

Dumpling Festival

It's dumpling festival and so we brought dumpling to share with Yoshi and Rika in Japan. It was fortunate that the dumplings survived the journey being kept in the luggage for about 8 hours.

Bags in book

I received this nice bags craft book from Derrick who bought it from Taiwan. There are some interesting ideas and the bags are quite Zakka.

I also love the layout of the books and the photography is indeed quite artistic too.

Rice pot

I learnt something today.

I always thought that you need a rice cooker to cook rice. Today, the canteen Aunty taught me that we could use any pot to steam rice.

So tonight, I steamed my own rice and had it with unagi, given by one of my colleagues.

Life is so interesting, I'm learning new things everyday.

Fabrics Shopping

I'm so excited.

Bought 11 pieces of fabics today.

I'm excited as I could see the possibilities of bags and pouches I could make out of all these materials.

Dumpling coin purse

Learnt how to make a dumpling shaped coin purse. It's actually slightly big for a coin purse. I think more suitable to put little knit Knacks like ear phones, watch, lipsticks, car key etc.

My Creations

These are some of my bowls from my ceramics throwing class.

Flower Dome - Tulips

Took some photos of the flowers when I was at the Gardens by the Bay, Flower Dome which had a Tulips exhibition.
I'm still using my Panasonic GF1.
It has served me well and always with me when I travel. Love its light weight and its compact size.

Penang kway teow soup

Derrick cooked Penang Kway Teow Soup yesterday and it was really tasty and delicious. It easily beat those hawkers who are selling Kway Teow Soup.

It took him a whole day to cook the dish. He also invited Gean, Adeline and Siew Boon over to feast together.

I'm really impressed with the dish.

Yummy!

Bday Gift #14

This is my second watch for my birthday. SB said she had never seen me wear a black vintage watch before and so gave me one.

It is a smart looking watch.

Bday Gift #13

This is really a surprised gift from a group of my colleagues. Didn't expect them to buy me anything, I'm really grateful for their gift. God bless them!

Bday Gift #12

My boss gave me this for my birthday.

It is dark chocolate and I loved it's bitter citrus taste.

Bday gift #11

Met up with Cheri and she passed me this bday gift. It's like a traveling journal kit. There are note books for you to write your journal, pockets for you to insert name cards, a money pouch for currencies and also a photo album for you to paste your Polaroid photos.

I'm definitely going to use it for my coming Japan trip.

Bday celebration #3

Chee San bought me bday lunch yesterday. For more than a decade, every year, without fail he will buy me bday meal. I knew him from my trip to Silk Road in 1997. He is really very kind and sweet to remember my bday. Thanks so my bro!

Bday gift #10

还记得以前过生日的时候,祖母都会在我生日那天弄两粒红鸡蛋给我吃。实际的意义我不清楚。好久没有吃红鸡蛋了,今年有红鸡蛋吃,太开心了!真的,让我想起童年的时光。

Bday gift #9

I remembered we had tea in Paris at Laduree, enjoying the array of macaroons. The sweet macaroons definitely went well with the afternoon tea. It is such a surprise that I'm able to enjoy Laduree macaroons in Singapore.

Bday gift #8

Hmm only my father's generation would buy such a gift. Haha! It's definitely a gift that I'll keep for a life time, since I can't spend those coins.

Bday gift #7

A simple but lovely watch to remind me that I'm running out of time. Will have to constantly remind myself to count my blessings and to be kind to others. Must appreciate our friends and family members. I think I'll need strength from God. Amen!

Bday gift #6

What lovely cupcakes, really reluctant to eat them. Thanks to Sally who is really a great baker. 真舍不得吃

Bday gift #5

This is really a surprised gift from Jia Qi. As she knows I'm currently into sewing, she presented a craft book on bags sewing to me. There are definitely great ideas in the book that'll give me inspiration.

Bday gift #4

This is really a wonderful gift. Homemade banana cake. It was really delicious and really, nothing bought from outside taste as good as this.

Thanks Maggie, for remembering my bday and taking the effort to bake the cake for me.

Tulips

With my annual pass, a bday gift from Derrick, we went to view the tulips fair in the Flower Dome.

Sometimes, we need to add colours into our lives. As long as you feel happy, it doesn't matter if it's just a simple thing.

This could not beat the tulips out in nature, but could you imagine, I could still get to see rows of tulips in Singapore, few short rows though.

Bday gift #3

This is an annual pass to the Gardens by the Bay. We went to see tulips in the Flower Dome yesterday. The tulips were almost fully bloom. Really love the fragrance in the Flower Dome, not from the tulips but from another flower which I don't know the name.

Now that I have the yearly pass, perhaps I could just go for a walk in the evening just to smell flowers and enjoy the cool aircon air.
